Budoshoshinshu The Warrior’s Premier of Daidoji Yuzan
This translation completes that I had hoped to be something of a samurai trilogy: first, the Hagakure, a radical and in some ways extreme view of the Way of the Warrior; second, Ideals of the samurai, an anthology of warrior sayings and codes spanning a period of 400 years on subjects as different as day and night; and how Budoshoshinshu: The Warriors’s Primer, a book that might be considered the most mainline in its thought, and which was certainly the most widely read by the warrior class during the last great persiod of warrior rule in Japan.
